Mechanical Engineer V

Nikkiso Cosmodyne is a leading provider of cryogenic process systems for the industrial gas, hydrogen, and natural gas industry. Cosmodyne specializes in the design and manufacturing of cryogenic air separation process plants and natural gas liquefiers.

Summary/Objective

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in design of equipment and piping systems for our plants. The individual should be proficient in using advanced design and analysis software and be capable of leading a small team to complete projects in time and within budget.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering design & assessments including pipe stress analysis, equipment specifications, and vendor bid evaluations for our natural gas and hydrogen liquefiers and air separation plants.
  • Control and coordination of all mechanical engineering and design activities from project inception to customer acceptance of delivered plant.
  • Key performance indicators include completing all contractual requirements on schedule, within budget.
  • Ability to foster a team approach in design and engineering, demonstrating leadership, planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Application of Engineering Design Codes including but not limited to ASME B31.3 for Process Piping, ASME B31.12 for H2 piping, ASME B31.5 for Refrigeration Piping, and ASME Section VIII Division 1 for Pressure Vessels.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher is required, with emphasis in mechanical engineering.
  • At least 20 years’ experience in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Relevant experience with the specification and engineering of cryogenic equipment for capital projects is preferred.
  • Experience working in an engineering & manufacturing environment with a focus on outsourced fabrication is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk 2D AutoCAD, 3D Inventor, & piping design and analysis software like Bentley Auto PIPE.
  • Knowledge of structural engineering software for analysis and design like RISA is a plus.
