Engineering Intern

Location: Murrieta, CA, United States

Nikkiso Cryoquip is a leading manufacturer of heat exchangers, liquefiers, and vaporizers for the LNG and industrial gases industry. Applications include fueling stations, marine engines, peak shaving, power generation, virtual pipelines, and well stimulation.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Our product lines are designed to utilize heat from available sources such as ambient air, water, steam, electrical and fuel combustion to convert cryogenic liquids to vapor phase. The Engineering Intern will work closely with the Application Engineering and Engineering Design groups of the organization. The Application Engineering group is the main contact with customers and are responsible for the process and system designs, along with formulating proposals and selling equipment to customers. The Engineering Design group is responsible for the CAD drawings, project management, and interfacing with Manufacturing.

The Internship position will entail several projects throughout the summer to assist both groups mentioned above. Projects may include research for new designs, running calculations, updating databases, creating marketing tools, creating new manual formats, assisting testing, etc. Each project will have a clear goal and a due date for review to give the intern a real work experience as an engineer. Knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and strength of material are essential. Microsoft office experience is required. Any experience with HTRI, computer programming, FEA or CFD also a plus.

Competencies:

Knowledge of thermal and fluid engineering concepts, equipment knowledge, problem solving skills, detailed oriented, results driven, organizational skills, group work efficiency, technical aptitude of systems, software (Autocad) is a plus, personable, strong communication and people skills.

Support Responsibilities

• May coordinate with internal groups including Engineering, Procurement, and Production for proper proposal and project execution
• May provides assistance for dynamic system calculations, including heat loads, temperature swings, etc. for project execution
• May assists with project cost analysis and monitoring to maintain project budget
• May assist Sales Team with developing and implementing test procedures

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, filing cabinets, etc., as well as exposure to small to large scale manufacturing equipment within the facility.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Must be able to lift 15 lbs at times as well as be seated at a desk for prolonged periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Required Education Experience (Either completed or actively in pursuit of):

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline.
